What is a domain name?
A domain name is a part of a web address. It is the unique name people type
in to find your web site. It looks like this: www.yourdomain.com.
How do I get a domain name?
Your domain name will be a name of your choosing followed by .com, .net, .info,
.biz, .org or one of the other available extensions. However, many domain
names are already taken or in use so we may have to get creative. The key
is to find an available domain name that is easy for people to remember and
spell. Then, we will register it at a cost of around $15 per year. Once you
have registered a domain name, it belongs to you. Even if you're not quite
ready to build your site, you can register and hold a domain name until you
have built your site and are ready to launch it.
What is web hosting?
A web site is made up of individual files. In order to view those files on
the internet, they must reside on a host computer or web server that is connected
to the internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
How much does web hosting cost?
Web hosting usually starts around $7 per month. Actual cost depends on your
web site's size, use and how much traffic it receives.
What makes your hosting service my best choice?
I contract hosting through a large company. In doing this I can offer my clients
a competitive price, reliability and speed through the large company plus
personalized and easily accessible support through me.
How long will it take to build a web site?
Generally, a small web site will take approximately a week, a mid sized site
up to two weeks and a large site can take from a few weeks to a month. It
also depends on how complex the site is and what your specific needs are.
Once I have all the details, I can give you an accurate estimate of the length
of time needed to produce a site.
What if I don't have photos, graphics or the copy for my site?
Don’t worry. I can help you with copy writing/logo work and graphical
elements. I have access to beautiful scenic original photos and can arrange
for a photographer to help you if needed. Photos are generally $50 each and
if you need a photographer’s services, I will set you up with a professional
who is very reasonable.
Can I maintain my own site?
Yes. If you would like to take care of your own site maintenance and/or updates,
I am happy to teach you how.
How do I get listed on the search engines?
During our initial meeting we will discuss key words and phrases people will
use with the search engines when they are looking for your site or sites like
yours. We will incorporate these key words and phrases into the text of your
web site and create meta tags. These are invisible to visitors to your site
but will help the search engines find you. From the very beginning, we will
focus on making your site search engine-friendly.Once your site is up and
running, you will have a number of options for promoting it through search
engines.
Will I be able to keep track of how many visits my web site gets?
Yes. Your web server will keep detailed statistics on how many visits your
site receives as well as information about where those "hits" come
from.
